KASTILJA Suite
Described as ‘probably the finest building in Malta’, this edifice occupies the highest point on the Valletta Peninsula. It was originally built in the 1570s to house knights of the Order of Saint John from the langue of Castile, León and Portugal. It was designed by Maltese architect Girolamo Cassar and considered one of his finest architectural projects. When the British took over Malta, the auberge in 1805 became the headquarters of the British armed forces in Malta and also used as a residence for British officers. As of 4th March 1972, the building became the Office of Malta’s Prime Minister.
